Fan gatherings hold a special place in the world of conferences and conventions. These fandom events typically attract a large and diverse audience, necessitating a significant physical presence. Moreover, most of the world’s largest fan events are organized as non-profit organizations. They depend heavily on unpaid staff to manage the year-round operations of the convention and rely on dozens, if not hundreds, of volunteers on event day to assist with crowd control, audio/visual needs, and guest relations.
ASFE is in a unique position since our attendees do not pay to participate in the event. Instead, most of our expenses are covered through private donations, sponsorships, and the valuable time contributed by our volunteers.
Our ASFE volunteer base includes experienced staff members from many of the area’s most prestigious conventions, such as MomoCon, AnachroCon, and Dragon Con. While you won’t be working to secure free membership, you’ll gain invaluable experience in the convention business, network with other professionals, and enjoy yourself!
**Participant Guidelines**
All ASFE volunteers must:
– Be at least 18 years of age (minors over the age of 14 can volunteer if accompanied by a parent who is also volunteering).
– Be available to work a minimum of four consecutive hours.
– Attend at least three pre-show meetings.
